The Mk4 Supra was an instant classic, a masterful swan song for an era of Japanese performance that married Toyota's engineering expertise to a classic sports/GT car layout. For a while, that made it one of the most interesting used cars in the world and a certified future collector's item. That tide has already turned, and the best Mk4 Supras have moved well into the six-figure range. Today, one such Supra listed on Bring a Trailer sold for a stunning $200,000.
This particular Supra is a red 1995 Turbo example with everything the discerning collector would look for: One-owner provenance, 7000 original miles, and a six-speed manual transmission. Unsurprisingly, it is in the sort of exceptional condition one would expect from a one-owner car of that mileage. It has no particular production number or celebrity ownership history, but other than that it is nothing less than the ideal example of what a Mk4 Supra could be.
Still, that price is a little bit shocking. Two and a half years ago, another 7000-mile turbocharged Supra on the same site in red sold for a then-record $121,000. Both the collector car market and the used car market as a whole have surged since then, but the 67-percent increase in value is still nothing less than startling. There is also no guarantee this is any sort of ceiling for Supras of this caliber; as Toyota re-introduces the nameplate and continues to win at Le Mans, demand for what may be its greatest-ever performance creation may keep increasing.
Incredibly, $200,000 is not actually a record for a Mk4 Supra. That honor belongs to a movie car, one driven by Paul Walker's Brian O'Connor in the first-ever Fast & Furious movie. That particular car sold for $550,000 at auction two months ago, a record a stock Supra is likely not going to beat for quite some time.
